Dr. Elizabeth Fleming is an assistant professor
in the Department of Special Education in the College of Arts
and Sciences at Simmons. She is past Assistant Dean, Chair, and
the Director of the Department of Special Education both undergraduate
and graduate, which is one of the largest graduate teacher training
programs in special education in the country. She has been the
principal investigator on several federal grants, conducted numerous
program curriculum evaluations, national trainings, chaired college
accreditation evaluations, has been a grant reader for several
state and federal grants in Washington, D.C. and was a participant
at the CISSLM-IMLS International Research Symposium looking at the impact
of school libraries on student learning in New York this past
year. Her doctoral dissertation surveyed Massachusetts teachers of special
education to determine their knowledge about school libraries and librarians.
Her research interests are in the areas of special education, professional
development, and inclusionary practices for both educators and
students.
